Overview

The SIR30216 Certificate III in Retail entry-level qualification is designed to give you the core foundation skills and practical knowledge you need to succeed in the retail industry. The qualification will allow an individual to supervise other team members and monitor day-to-day workplace operations. 

Duration

Traineeship: Estimated duration 52 Weeks

Study Mode and Assessment Methods

Work Based: Salford college will deliver training and assessment using facilities at a student’s workplace, in a classroom environment face to face or virtually using Microsoft Teams Environment.

During this course, you will undertake a wide range of assessment activities including:

  • Project /Assignment
  • Verbal / written assessment tasks
  • Scenarios/Case studies
  • Workplace case studies
  • Roleplay and observations

Description

The industry recognises this course as providing skills and knowledge to perform various retail operations tasks, such as cash handling, sales and service, merchandising, stock control and workplace safety duties and delivering on organisational expectations.

The qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings, including specialty retailers, supermarkets, department stores and quick-service restaurants.

Concession Eligibility

There are no entry requirements for this qualification

To be eligible to participate, the requirements are :

  • Student must be 16 years or above and not enrolled at school

or

  • Aged 16 years or over, enrolled in school and undertaking training through training guarantee for SACE Students
  • Students must reside in South Australia.
  • Students must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a Humanitarian Visa
  • Students should meet the minimum LLN requirements of the course
  • Students are employed in the industry and the Employer is eligible for the program

Fees

This course is subsidised through the Government of South Australia’s subsidised training indicative https://www.skills.sa.gov.au/subsidised-eligibility. The eligibility check is an indication only and does not confirm the eligibility status. Eligibility verification will take place during the enrolment

If eligible for subsidised training, apprentices and trainees are required to pay a Student Contribution Fee. The Student Contribution Fees are charged minimum at the rate of $0.50 per nominal hour for each unit of competency/module to be calculated at the commencement of the unit of competency/module.

If agreed between the employer and the apprentice/trainee, student contribution fees can be paid by the employer.

Concession Eligibility

Students who hold any of the following concession cards at the time of their enrolment may be eligible to for a concession fee:

  • Hold a health care card
  • Hold a pensioner concession card
  • Hold a pensioner concession card issued by the Department of Veteran Affairs
  • Are a prison inmate, a detainee, on remand, held in a South Australian institution in connection with the commission of an offence, or a child in a South Australian detention centre older than 16 years.

Please note: Proof of eligibility for concession must be demonstrated at the time of enrolment.

The student tuition fees published are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment.

In some cases though, students may be eligible for a partial or full exemption. School based apprentices and trainees are not required to pay a student contribution fee while they are still at school but may be required to pay fees once the training contract has been converted to full-time or part-time post school.

Employer would pay the gap fees for the course.

  • A Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment is conducted on all entrants prior to enrolment into the program to ensure that Salford College can support each student throughout the program.

Pathways

After achieving SIR30216 Certificate III in Retail, individuals could progress to SIR40316 Certificate IV in Retail Management, or to Certificate IV qualifications in other service industry fields.

Recognition of Prior Learning/Credit Transfer

Do you already have existing skills and knowledge and don’t need additional training? Have you done previous training?

Please contact our office if you would like to undertake Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or apply for credit transfer. RPL/Credit transfer may reduce your course duration and fees

Course Structure

To achieve the qualification a total of thirteen (13) units of competency must be completed, including eight (8) core units and five (5) elective units. 

Elective units are decided upon consultation with the Employer.
