The White Card CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry is the mandatory work health and safety (WHS) induction training required for anyone who works, or intends to work, on a construction site in Australia.
This nationally recognised unit of competency equips learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills to identify hazards, control risks, and ensure the safety of themselves and others in a construction environment.
Licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit. Relevant work health and safety state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm jurisdictional requirements.

Duration
Duration : 1 Day (Face to Face)
Study Mode and Assessment Methods
Mode of Delivery: On-campus, trainer-led instruction with interactive discussions and demonstrations.
Assessment involves both theoretical and practical evaluation to demonstrate competency:
- Knowledge Assessment: Multiple-choice and short-answer questions covering key WHS concepts.
- Practical Demonstrations: Role-play scenarios and simulated construction site exercises.
All assessment tasks are conducted in a simulated construction setting that reflects real workplace practices.
Description
By completing this course, you will gain the skills and confidence to:
- Recognise and report common construction hazards
- Apply basic risk control measures
- Respond effectively to incidents and emergencies
- Understand and comply with state and territory
- WHS regulations Correctly select, fit, and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
- This training meets the general construction induction training requirements outlined in the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations (Part 1.1 and Part 6.5).
- Division 11 of Part 3 of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 for Western Australia; and
- Division 3 of Part 5.1 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007 for Victoria.
Entry Requirements
To enrol in the White Card course by yourself at Salford College, you must:
- Be 16 years of age or older or Students under 18 parents are required to sign the application form before commencing training
- Hold or create a Unique Student Identifier (USI) – visit www.usi.gov.au
- Provide valid Government-issued photo ID (driver’s licence, passport, or proof of age card)
- Allow a photo to be taken (head, neck, and shoulders) on the day of training
- Have a functional level of English literacy and numeracy sufficient to:
- Read and follow basic safety instructions and pictorial signage
- Ask questions and communicate hazards
- Understand simple WHS terminology
- Notify the college in advance if you require additional Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) support.
There are no pre-requisite units for this course. However, site-specific induction training is expected prior to conducting construction work.

- Eligibility to apply for the Construction Induction (White) Card recognised nationwide.
Please Note: The White Card and Statement of Attainment will be posted to students after assessments are marked. They are not issued on the day of training.
